Why can't the US do this?

I just love Europe!!!! The capital of Scotland is considering banning plastic bags from the city! Yes, that means when you go to the grocery store you'd better bring a backpack, or reusable bags to haul your stuff in. It may seem hard if you've never done it before. But it's not really rocket science now is it. You just need to be a little prepared when you walk into a store. If you can remember your wallet, you can remember a bag. "I just love Europe!!!! That being said, I don't really foresee Edinburgh passing this. I mean, sure it's Europe, but the council is elected, so that means they'll forgo what's really best for the people to placate to the least common denominators.... which unfortunately Edinburgh still has a lot of.

Ummh... not sure I would actually support the banning them completely.

I usually bring mine to the store (after the initial times when I bought some), but I like having the option of buying them (I mean, come on, plenty of people do not go there straight from their house, and it would be annoying to always carry a bunch of bags - for those of us who do not like going every day - in your work bag).

After all, they do serve a purpose... After I buy them, the ones I do not reuse (which end up being always the same 3-4 bags, as that is as much as we can carry), I use for trash cans around the house. Not really a bad thing to do.

They could, if they want, make them more expensive :) But banning them... not sure I like that... but... that is just me.

Have a nice weekend and hope the teeth keep coming out!

Hey Robin,
The US isn't so bad...pretty sure that San Francisco is doing the same thing (at least for major grocery and box store) as well as banning city companies from buying water bottles for their employees. and Santa Monica is considering banning plastic bags also. Also santa monica just banned styrofoam containers in restaurants. there is some progress here...alisa
